Broken permalinks after changing blog's url
-
Hi
I have recently moved my blog to a different URL without being aware of consequences. ” If you do change your blog address, permalinks to your old address, including search engine results, will be broken unless you purchase a Site Redirect upgrade.” I’ve noticed that visits on my page drastically went down since the new URL. Also I’ve received massages saying than search engines bring ppl to the wrong address. Will everything be back to normal if I transfer my blog back an old URL? Help please! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/7. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

Thanks. I have kept the old address. It’s displaying an information about an address change. I have an option to transfer my blog to this address but my current one will be deleted. if I’ll transfer it back will it be ok? I don’t mind loosing my present address permanently

I don’t know if you can transfer it back or not. I do know that you can export and import content between WordPress.com blogs very easily.

I don’t like the transfer utility thing – too many people show up in the forum with some sort of old address went away – I would take @TT’s advice & link and export then import into the old blog
Both blogs are showing good addresses – and you did not delete the old one – one note – there is no “www” in a WordPress.COM URL
Did you get a Site Redirect upgrade for the old blog? That is another way to deal with the go to the wrong place problem – and the new blog has a nice URL / name

I just got it right now. but that’s after over a week since I moved my blog. sorry I’m completely lame with all the IT stuff. Is that gonna be ok?

Looks like you got the site redirect working – that is good
There will probably still be a bit of a shuffle step in the traffic as the search engines get used to the new name – but the Site Redirect tells the search engines that you have a new address and to please change their records –
Your site is also very slow loading with a lot of pictures on it – slow loading will get your site downgraded by search engines and upset visitors – think about using the More Tag to make the Posts on the home page shorter (only show one picture) – http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
Also consider optimizing the pictures for the web – @timethief has some good guidelines for that on her blog and also how to build traffic

Yeah it’s working fine. Thanks very much for all your tips. What I’m worrying is that my followers that were following colorpsark79.wordpress.com are not getting updates from my new url photosteam.wordpress.com. Shall I transfer my followers somehow?

I was doing a research and I noticed that there’s a man called macmanx appearing on some feeds with this great info: I’ve transferred your followers for you. I think this means that I need to transfer my followers
-
No, the followers should automatically transfer if you moved from one WordPress.com URL to another. Those transfers he’s talking about are from WordPress.com to WordPress.org.

Look on your Stats page – down at the bottom on the left side – there is a list of followers – if your follower list is only on the good blog address you are good to go – if there are followers on the old site you will need help from the staff
