Broken statistics
-
Hi,
a few weeks ago I wrote about a similar problem, but unfortunately, there wasn’t any solution.
The problem is related to the difference between the number of clicks that I have in the link that refers to some post on my blog and the number of visits this post in the WordPress statistics.
I mean when I see 50 clicks in the link that refers to my blog, at the same time I see only 1 visitor of this post in the WordPress stats.
Could you please help me and write how can I fix it?
I understand that if someone clicks in the link that refers to my post, this user should be count as the visitor of my blog because he saw, at least, one of the pages on my blog (the page from the link that he clicked). The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If I visit your site and click 10 post or page title links the result is 10 page view stats and 1 visitor. Are you clear on that?

If I visit your site 10 times and view the front page without clicking into any post or page the result is 10 front page/archive page view stats.

Our stats are not real time stats and take hours to update. There are frequent fluctuations that most do not notice because we aren’t watching the process. Instead, they wait for the next day to check their stats For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and here Views and Visitors https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#views-and-visitors and do note that both the views and viewers and views by country https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#views-by-country take hours to update.
Our stats are page view stats. If I visit your blog and click into 10 posts that will be recorded as 1 visitor and 10 page views. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.
Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats.
Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.
Logged in visitors using a mobile can read the full post without creating a page view stat. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-reader-show-full-text?replies=31#post-1373606
You can control the length of the entry sent out on your RSS feed here Dashboard > Settings > Reading. Choose the “summary” setting for your RSS feed rather than to “full text”. That will compel followers who are not using mobiles to click into the blog to read the full post which will create a page view stat.
If you still have concerns about your stats then you can type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Yes, of course. But this topic was related to the difference between the number of clicks on the referral link and the number of visitors on my page in the WordPress stats…

Here is a link to the Staff response in your older thread which is now closed. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/broken-statistics?replies=6#post-2515733
You need to be very specific when you ask for Staff help. Screenshots can be helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

My question was related to the clicks in the referral links (these links exist outside the WordPress.com platform). The number of these clicks is never the same as the number of visitors displayed in the WordPress stats to the same period of time. Could you please explain the conditions related to counting a visitor of a blog in the WordPress stats?

Referrers
The referrers section lists other blogs, web sites, and search engines that link to your blog. A view is associated with a referrer a visitor lands on a URL on your site after clicking a link on the referrer’s site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#referrersThere are situations like Staff described here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/broken-statistics?replies=6#post-2515733 where the software is unable to track where the referrer came from.
Have you read the entire stats support doc?
It’s here https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/
