Broken Widget Code on Yoko Theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just switched to Yoko theme on WordPress.com, and the “new” Twitter Timeline isn’t working, nor is my Goodreads author page id. Yes, I did go onto Twitter and create the code and then place it in the appropriate widget box. My Twitter feed using the “old-soon-to-be-outdated” Twitter widget is working…it’s the new one that isn’t. Yes, I did go onto Goodreads, go to my author page, find the unique number id and place that in the appropriate widget box…not working. The links from my page to fix either issue aren’t working either, whether I straight up click on them or I shift/click on them…don’t go anywhere. Of course I’d like these to work, and I suspect a glitch in the Yoko code.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there!

After checking your Goodreads and Twitter Widgets, I can see that they might have been configured incorrectly and the problems you had with them weren’t caused by a glitch in the Yoko theme.

For the Goodreads widget, please bear in mind that your Author ID differs from your User ID.

For instructions on getting your User ID, please click here:

    Goodreads Widget

Afterwards, please proceed to your blog’s Widgets panel to activate the widget and enter your Goodreads User ID.

On the other hand, for the Twitter Timeline widget to work, you’ll need to create a Twitter Widget. Please refer to this support page for instructions:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/twitter-timeline-widget/

Once you’ve created the widget, can you share with me the URL found on top of your browser while you’re editing the widget?

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks!

    Hey-
Thanks for your replies…I did all of those things several times.
Yes, I know the author ID is separate, and in several places instructions said I could use my author ID and, in fact, to use my author ID. I'm only interested in linking to my author page, anyway, so I won't use the widget on any page if I can't link to the author page. I found some Goodreads glitches when I signed up last year, and maybe this is a glitch on their end, anyway.
WP has screwed with the Twitter feed options, also, so they want to transition to a new way of feeding, and evidently the old one works and the new one doesn't.
    I get it :)
I decided to go with another theme, especially since when I started looking at other themes a spam screen came up that said, “cheatin', huh?”
    Maybe you know about that?
    Thanks-
    Deborah

I was able to get the new Twitter widget working just a while ago without any hitches. Can you kindly login and create a Twitter widget from this page? —

    https://twitter.com/settings/widgets/

Then, click the blue “Create Widget” button straight away and share the URL of the resulting page? It should look something like this:

    https://twitter.com/settings/widgets/123456789101112131415/edit?focus_textarea=1&notice=WIDGET_CREATED
