Bromley Theme: Change Follow Blog Widget

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there
    I’ve just added the Follow Blog widget to my blog but it looks hideous

    Its far too big for the text content and looks like a big white square space with some grey writing in it.
    Also the follow button annoyingly follows the colour of the top header menu which I want to be black. This means I have a single black follow button in the middle of a sea of white.

    Questions:
    1: How can I make the dimensions of the follow blog smaller without changing the other sidebar widgets? I think just the height of it would be ok
    2: How can I change the colour of the follow button independently so it doesn’t follow the colour of the top menu? I will upgrade if I have to its so bad.
    3: How can I change the colour of the header text?
    4: How can I change colour of the main text in the header?

    Thanks for any help

    Andy

    On the button in the follow blog widget, this will give you a bright read button in a sea of white. If you so desire, you can of course edit the color code and make it less obnoxious. :)

    form input[type="submit"] {
        background-color: #cc0000;
    }

    To tighten up the follow blog widget, add the following.

    #subscribe-blog p {
        font-size: 75%;
        margin-bottom: 10px;
    }
    .widget_blog_subscription {
        margin-bottom: 0;
        padding-bottom: 0;
    }

    3: How can I change the colour of the header text?

    Which header text? The post and or page titles, the widget titles, h1-h6 added in the entry content?

    Are you talking about the menu items? If so, the following will change the top-level menu item color.

    .masthead .menu ul a {
        color: #00ee33;
    }

    The submenus have a light colored background and black text, so if you wish to also change those, you can use the following.

    .masthead .menu li ul {
        background-color: #ee00bb;
    }
    .masthead .menu li ul li a {
        color: #eeaa00;
    }
    .masthead .menu li ul li a:hover {
        color: #0044ee;
    }

    And Andy, I hope you take my jest and wild colors in stride. :) I’m coming to the end of a long day and sometimes can get a bit silly.

    Hi Thesacredpath
    You know what??? >> You don’t often come across that many helpful people on the internet. We live in a world where people click on the word ‘like’ and think they’ve done something.
    Thank you so much for your help >> I’ll get stuck in and get those changes up and running. I really appreciate your help and time spent.
    Nice one mate. Cheers!

    BTW I laughed out loud when that blog follow button went red LOLOL

    Hi Thesacredpath
    One more thing
    I am trying to change the colour of the side bar headers. As you can see at the moment they are light grey with white writing.
    I go to Customize >> Colours & Backgrounds >> Widget Heading Background >> Choose your own colour #6ba8bc >> Save & Publish
    However, nothing changes after I’ve saved it.
    Maddening as all of your CSS advice works brilliantly > you can see the sidebar has tightened up nicely and I changed the red to the blue colour

    Any ideas?

    Scrub that last request

    I woke up and did it again and it worked >> It looks so much better now

    Hi Thesacredpath

    I really hope this is the last one (really)
    Some of my side bar widgets text are in an annoying (LOL) light grey, for example >> Gravatar text, Images (Just Turn Left: Available on Amazon/TEFL Teaching & Living in China) & Follow Blog.

    Any chance of waving your magic wand one more time so I can alter the colour from grey to black or whatever mate?

  • Hi Andy, could you specify a bit more which part of the widgets you’re looking to tweak the colour of so I can help you with the CSS?

    For example, on theFollow Blog widget, are you looking to change the colour of the text on the widget title (1), the main widget text (2) or the button (3)?
