Browser extensions causing log in Issues
-
Hi,
After a long conversation with support staff failed to help sort out my log in issues yesterday, I tried some trial and error and discovered that it was my browser extensions that were causing the problem.
The thing is, turning on said extensions after I sign in, logs me out immediately! That’s not ideal since I need those extensions as well.
Is there some workaround?
Thanks in advance.

In order to help you Staff need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful please provide this info:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

Timethief, thank you for that detailed response. I have cross checked every single point and all seem to be in order.
I tried disabling all my (Google Chrome) extensions and enabling them one by one to discover that it s the Alexa toolbar extension that is the culprit.
With the latter enabled, I am able to remain logged into my .com site, but navigating from there to any wordpress.com admin pages, including stats or post edit, brings up the log in page. I am able to click back to the .com site and even respond to comments without being logged out.
I wasn’t able to comment here without disabling the Alexa extension either. I have never faced this issue before!
Have tagged for moderator assistance. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hi there,
The issue with the Alexa browser extension is one that our team is aware of and we’re checking with Alexa about it to let them know about the conflict between their extension and WordPress.com. For now, you’ll need to keep that extension disabled or use a different browser to log in to WordPress.com.

Thank you Rachel. I never had a problem until I was locked out last evening. Do hope the engineers come up with a solution. I can live without Alexa until they do:)
