browser uploader worse than flash

When I click on the “add image” button, sometimes the popup window tells me I am using the Flash uploader. I haven’t had any troubles with the Flash uploader.
Sometimes it tells me I’m using the browser uploader. It works for uploading the image, sometimes. It does not work for inserting the image into the post. I get the blank window, and right-clicking and refreshing just takes me back to my post, still without the image.
I have found a way to post uploaded pictures anyway. I copy the format from a successfully posted picture in another post, changing the relevant information — the date, the filename, the alternate text, the sizes, and the id number, all of which I can get from the media library tab in my dashboard.
I am curious as to whether I am the only person whose problems with the new uploader are only with the browser version, not the Flash version.

My dashboard defaults to the flash uploader, and it lacks an upload button entirely. I just read a couple suggestions to upgrade flash, and I well might next time I’m on my desktop at home (where I tend to store and upload photos).
