Brute force protection & PI updates through WP.com acct dashboard

I’m eager to activate both brute force protection and update plugins via my WordPress.com account dashboard for a few self-hosted WordPress sites that I manage. Both of these sites are running JetPack v3.4. I’m running Brute Protect on both sites, and updating PIs via the InfiniteWP plugin. When I visit my WP.com account, and search on the ‘Security’ tab, I receive information on setting up 2-step authentication to login to my account. Nothing on activating brute force protection, nor on using WP.com as a central hub for updating PIs on self-hosted WP.org sites. Am I missing something here? Is something not properly configured on my WP.com account that accounts for the missing features?

Brute force protection is built in on WP.com. All of the inner workings are updated and maintained by staff here. Security is significantly higher here than in a self-hosted WordPress.org install, for a number of reasons including staff maintenance.

You cannot maintain your WP.org blogs from your WP.com dashboard.

Please familiarize yourself with the differences between the two platforms. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Raincoaster, I fully understand the differences b/n WP.com and WP.org. My problem is that I’m looking for a function under the ‘Security’ tab on the admin of my WP.com site that

    1) enables me to activate brute force protection for my WP.org sites (JetPack enabled), and

    2) provides a centralized location on WP.com to update plugins (PIs) installed and active on my WP.org sites.

Two posts on ‘JetPack.me/news’ dated March 17, 2015 (re: JetPack v3.4) and Dec. 16, 2014 (re: JetPack v.3.3) discuss enabling brute force protection and centralized PI updates through the WP.com account admin. I cannot find this functionality on my WP.com account. That’s what I need assistance with.

Again, did I misunderstand those announcements on the JetPack/news blog? Why are those functions not visible on my WP.com/Security account admin?

JetPack is built-in to WordPress.COM blogs. The plugin is only for WordPress.ORG users to give them parity with what we already had here first. There are no such settings on your blog and never will be because the settings are set by Staff for the whole WordPress.COM multiuser blogging platform.

Timethief, I understand everything you and raincoaster said about the difference b/n WP.com and WP.org sites. And I’m not satisfied with the answers I’m getting. Reading the blog posts for Jetpack.me/news for 03/17/15, and 12/16/14 leads me to believe that there’s some additional functionality on the WP.com dashboard for activating brute force protection and PI updates through JetPack on WP.org sites. I’ll be attending WordCamp San Diego next weekend, and someone from Automattic is likely to be in attendance who can clear this up. You can close out this thread.

We cannot help you with Jetpack at all. Your best bet is to go to the Jetpack.me site and ask there.
