Bueno dropdowns and Typekit

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve put Typekit on my Bueno installation and added CSS editing and a few others things too (WordPress.com is such a bargain it seems silly not to). I used Panos’s excellent instructions here to do this – http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/05/30/improving-bueno-via-typekit/

    There is one thing that still puzzles me – and Panos can’t see the answer either. Is there a way to get a Typekit font to affect the dropdown menus? We’ve both looked at the CSS and can’t figure out a way to do this. Any suggestions please? Panos suggested halluke might know if he has the time

    Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply, I did notice your post before but put it on the to-do list as until today I’d not really looked into using typekit. I tried to search for the post again but couldn’t find it. I’m hallluke with three Ls in the middle, just so you know!

    The only way to achieve your goal is to add the typekit styles using custom CSS as the Bueno theme uses !important in its style rules and I don’t think you can override that from the typekit site. At least not with the free account.

    Here’s what you need to include. The last declarations you can remove if you like, the font looked a bit tiny when I trialled it myself so I increased the sizes just a little.

    #pagenav li ul li a:link, #pagenav li ul li a:visited {font-family:"atrement-web-1","atrement-web-2",sans-serif!important; font-size:1.4em; line-height:1.7em!important;}

    @Luke: thanks!
    (By the way, my suggestion was a bit stronger than “might know”!)

    Not a problem! It is a bit of a shame users will need the CSS upgrade to achieve this rather than being able to do it all from the typekit site. I imagine it won’t affect too many people though and David is a step ahead of the pack now.

    Thanks. I have the custom CSS – seems silly not so spend a little money to support WordPress. In fact I came to the conclusion I’d rather not go this route. With the CSS I changed the fonts in Bueno to something that doesn’t make the dropdowns stick out so much. Also I’d worry about how the site would look frankly. Typekit doesn’t do well in IE8 and isn’t wonderful in Chrome sometimes too. I’d toyed with the idea of using it for the body font (and paid for the Typekit personal upgrade with that idea in mind). But having seen sites with Typekit body fonts in IE I think I’ll stick to headlines and stuff.
    Thanks again!

    Unfortunately, Bueno is not part of the list of supported themes at the moment, hence the problems applying the custom font consistently throughout the blog. Maybe someday… Good luck!

    @airodyssey:
    • All wp.com themes support Typekit.
    • If you check bodsham1’s blog, you’ll see that has already customized it via Typekit.

    • hallluke is a CSS expert, and he has explained why you can’t override the dropdown font in particular.

    Hello,

    Could someone please, help me to ammend the css for the Vigilance theme, please.

    1. I need to take out the horizontal bar beneath the header image.
    2. Change the font colour of the menu/sub menu titles.
    3. Change the font colour of the page names.
