Bueno

@Sandra
Your experience above is exactly what mine has been when it comes the the Featured Posts widget. In fact, I just left you a blog comment on the same subject. I think we do need to get Staff to wade in and explain exactly how it is meant to work because I’ve tried all the same things too and I’m flummoxed. -
I love this new theme — my only concern is that the font colors on the sidebars (and in the posts) might be dark enough for some people to read easily.

@cbertel
I’m visually challenged and I can read the fonts in the post and sidebars easily. This is not to say that other visually impaired people may have a different experience, I’m just sharing my own.Overall I also love this theme. The only thing I strongly dislike is the size and choice of font in the blog title and pages. Making it even worse is the fact that all letters are capitalized – yuck!
-
does anyone know how to put your pages in your own order, I have a particular order I’d like mine in however it’s not working
-
Hello there,
Ordering static Pages is not a theme dependent function and has no real application to discussion about the Bueno theme. Pages are alphabetically ordered by default. You will find Attributes on the right hand column when creating or editing a static page that allows you to specify numbers for page ordering.
See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/ -
If you did order them using numbers and that isn’t working for you in the Bueno theme then you need to report that to Staff > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

1) “Must a post have a Featured Image to be a Featured Post?” Of course not. Featured Post in this theme equals display in the BFP widget – nothing to do with featured image.
2) As I mentioned above, I had tried the BFP widget and it worked. Tried your steps 1-5 exactly as you say, no posts. So I tested more… Verdict? Tag has to be a single word.
3) You don’t have direct access to the code of a featured image, so you can’t remove its border without the paid CSS.
4) Featured image width: 400px.

Two Things: One, is there a way to change the color of the title of the blog? This wouldn’t be absolutely necessary, but it would be nice. Two, can the color of the sidebar and links change colors too? It worked great with the default background, but the pictures I have tried as custom backgrounds make the sidebar very difficult to read.
Thanks! This is definitely my favorite theme so far. -
thanks!! I am still new to this whole thing, I’ve taken several web design courses at school but am still learning the ropes.
-
Apologies if this is bad form, but still wondering if anyone has any insight re: my comment in this thread from yesterday @ 7:31pm. I’ve visited a number of activated Bueno blogs and don’t see anything that looks like what I see when I preview. Thanks.
-
@Panos, you’re brilliant! I would never have figured this one word vs. two word tag out in a million years. I’ll try it out myself later in the day. I knew it didn’t have anything to do with the featured post image, but just grasping at straws.
Thanks for your other answers. I will probably ditch featured posts altogether since they are a headache when you change to a new theme. When I moved from Inuit Themes to Bueno, I got double images. But I like the size, so will try to use insert photos the usual way.
I don’t see anyway to use the featured image and insert it into post so it shows on the post page. If I insert a regular image, then I get double images on the main page. I will try this again later, but I think the best approach is to avoid featured images since they don’t translate well to other themes at this stage of the game.
Much gratitude.

I prefer a black font over a gray font, so when I will mostly likely just use the color option in the editor box to make the font black instead of grey, as I did in my current post. Don’t think it can be changed in most other widget boxes with out the CSS upgrade, except for the text widget box.
So I have a black font in post and mostly gray font on sidebar. People often have a different color in the sidebar, so I think this is fine. I would prefer black all around and I too could live without the chunky blog title and page titles.
-
@Sandra: You’re welcome. Re featured image plus regular insert, you’re right, sorry, my mistake. The only way to avoid a double image on the homepage is using the more tag before the regularly insered image.
By the way, I don’t see why so much interest in this theme. I would vote it for worst header ever.
@niwotcentral: I suppose you mean your 4:31 AM post. Some themes display pages in the header and some don’t (complete list here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/header-page-tabs/ ). Bueno does, and you can’t change that. No matter what the theme, a large number of header tabs is neither elegant nor practical. So you can forget themes with top navigation, or you can turn the majority of your pages into child pages to a few parent ones: the header displays parent pages only, with dropdowns to child pages in a few themes including Bueno.
(Frankly, I’m surprised you’re thinking of switching from ChaoticSoul to Bueno; to me, no comparison.)
-
thanks @panaghiotisadam. perhaps we are many time zones apart?
Yes, I’ve been exploring the child-parent pages issue, and yes, I realize that I am way too page-heavy in my sidebar. So I’m looking at revamping some of that for sure.
And yes, I admit I have been through all the themes over and over lately, and nothing really makes my heart flutter quite the way ChaoticSoul has for two-plus years. Your comment seems to validate what I was already thinking: I just might be a diehard thematic monogamist.
Thanks greatly for the insights!

Okay, wow, I see this may be more of a problem than I thought. However, I really do like the Bueno Template. Unfortunately, Esta no bueno… from what you guys are saying here, but, I really have gotten beyond most of those problems with my set up…Well, Okay, I could do without the Billboard Header Text, and a few frames that are automatically casing my images, but still I can live with that even…Just thought I would add my 2 cents in on those to let you guys know that I DID read your discussion, to make sure I wasn’t Re-Opening an already resolved, or discussed issue…So, having said all of that… Here’s my main issue with my Bueno Theme, Please advise.
The (Blockquote) Italicizes my post, rather than blocks the background.
-
I just tested it, and it makes the blockquote italics (the theme designer’s decision) but after you come out of the blockquote, the text goes back to plain.
-
@Son, some themes have italics for the block quotes and they don’t always have a background as in some themes. I plan to just use the indent feature for quotes instead of the block quotes to avoid the italics and larger font for the quote. I can’t stand it when they make the quote font bigger, especially if you have long quotes. Looks terrible.
I think you figured it out you can remove the frame from photos (as explained above) except for the featured post.
Bueno has a few quirks, but we are sorting them out.
Good luck!
