Bueno
-
@panaghiotisadam – You are funny! Yes, totally ugly header, there seems to be universal consensus on that. It’s the endless search for the perfect theme. Bueno has a little warmth and personality, whereas Inuit Types is stylish but a little cold. I would love to see a marriage between Inuit Types (perfect font and font color, wider writing area) and Bueno (a little bit of color, but not too much, custom background). One day, maybe my theme will come…

Thank you to everyone who answered my concerns about the fonts, etc.
I like the block letters for the title of the blog — I’ve been looking for a theme that allows me to use my fave picture for the header and also emphasizes the name of my blog.
I tried using the Visual editor on the text of the posts to darken the color and it looks like its doable, manually, for every post in the future, at least.
I love the background options, I created a stone effect by tiling a photo vertically on the left. Cool.

I guess I’m just not familiar with what the “BlockQuote” is really supposed to do then…
Maybe it was my last Template that did it wrong… By “Not” Italicizing the font, or making it larger, but, only compacting it comfortably over a “Gray” background. But, I Liked the effect that it gave my entries. So, which little clicky thingy do I use to get that effect ? -
@sonsothunder
Wow! Your blog looks much better in this theme IMO. Blockquotes are depicted by the ” (quotation mark) in Row 1 of the editor icon display. If you select the text to be quoted with your mouse and click that icon when using the Visual editor the part you selected will appear in blockquotes. See the illustration here and take note of Row 1 icon # 6. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/ -

Thanks timethief, Could I possibly get a personal opinion from you on how it looks right now, on Theme Jentri, compared to the Bueno look. I realize this request goes above and beyond your calling here, but, based on the uniformity of your blogs, I do value your taste, and opinion. I guess I am too indecisive in this area, and would much prefer to spend the time writing, rather than trying to find a theme that I am totally satisfied with. I want of course to attract, and appeal to more readers than to satisfy my personal template taste anyway. Thanks, and if this is too much to ask, I understand perfectly.

@sonsothunder
I am a plain speaking and very blunt person.1. I do not like the Jentri theme as it has very few features that I consider to be useful and will not do without.
2. I see that you have created large blocks of text in your post. If your are writing for an academic auduence then there’s no problem using conventional paragraph breaks. But when it comes to writing for the web I have found that the conventional paragraph structure that creates large blocks of text will deter readers from reading it.
I break my text into smaller paragraphs. That injects white space that provides rest for the eyes. I also use sub-titles to break up large blocks of text and from time to time I use images for the same purpose.

everything works well for me, I love the theme and in the middle of customizing it. Yesterday when first attempting to change the background by entering a hex color code, not using the color wheel, it didn’t work but it worked later on in the second try.
Also, I have to change the size of my navigation bar because the drop down menus wouldn’t work if there’s a link under them in the nav bar (if that makes sense)
Also, what’s the point in having 3 footer widget options on the widgets page when they all end up going to the sidebar and not the bottom of the page? I usually don’t use bottom widgets but I thought that was odd.

Okay, yeah , well, I started my blog last year with a lot of individual blog entries. This “Sons of Enoch” thing has taken on a book form. I know what you mean about the options…such as the Index, Chapters Navigation bar etc… which, I think I had set up pretty well on the original template. However, I just added a Chapter Search box, which as far as the Book, I believe actually simplifies the navigation.
As far as Archives. I figured I would just have to leave as such, and maybe some day look into transferring those post onto a new blog extension or something.
I really did like the bold/basic look of the Bueno, though, there are certain things that I do not like, and frankly, just decided to move along with my writing. I think I’ll just let it stay here for the moment, and see what the stats reveal. Thanks for your input, and I DO appreciate the honesty … That’s what I was looking for really. I’m not really a writer as you can tell, in fact, I think I have forgotten more about paragraph, and content structure than I have the time to reflect on, while researching and keeping my mind set on the narrative. Thanks Again. -

Understood. One could spend all their blogging time messing with tweaking and trying out themes but if there are features you don’t like, and our blogging time is limited, then there’s no contest – creating content wins hands down, so blog on. :)

Thanks, I haven’t touched the CSS of the widgets or footer, but it could simply be the fact that I even have the CSS upgrade because since I first switched to the theme, my footer background seemed to have extended to being the background of content and sidebar and I notice it’s not like that on other blogs with this theme. I really don’t use bottom widgets anyways, though this is good to know.

For those who dislike the chunky font, I reduced the number of main pages to 3 (at least for the moment) by using sub-pages. This minimizes the amount of chunky text for page titles under the blog title. Before, I had a full line of page titles underneath the blog title and now I have just 3 next to the blog title. Of course, this doesn’t obviate the horrible chunky text entirely, but at least it reduces it.

I have a question – I really like the way Bueno looks, but I have the same problem with most wordpress themes – I want a header photo that incorporates my blog title, so it’s more like a logo. But then there is the redundant title above. I heard that if you remove the top title, your blog name won’t be picked up in searches. Does anyone have a solution, or a suggestion of another theme that would let me just have a single image/title header? Thanks!

@whatwouldcathyeat: You need a theme with a custom header option plus the “Hide Text” option. See list here:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/header-images/
As well as these workarounds:

Thank you. Of course, none of the themes I like have the hide text option. Hopefully more will in the future!

I’ve read this thread’s comments about the image thumbnail in featured posts, and I still don’t understand what I’m missing. I have no idea how the featured posts on the right column in the wordpress blog example are displaying images. This doesn’t automatically happen for mine…
From what I gather no one else knows how to make this happen?
-
@radicaloneofmany: Please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your username to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.
A) You need the “Bueno Featured Posts” widget in the sidebar. If you select no Media Tag, it will display the latest five posts; if you select a tag, it will display the latest fice posts tagged with that tag, provided the tag is a single word. If you select “Full content”, it will display complete posts; if you select “Excerpts”, it will display post excerpts, provided you’ve written excerpts in the post editor.
B) Images can be either normal images inserted in the posts or “featured” images. Normal images will display if you select “Full content” in the widget, or if you copy-paste their code from the html editor into the excerpt box and select “Excerpts” in the widget. Featured images will display automatically as small thumbnails if you set featured images to each post. Do you know how to do that? If not, see here:
