Bug: Freshy and a static page

    I think I’ve found a bug with the Freshy theme: If you set your blog to be a static page, it will think the “Posts” page is the Home page for highlight the “Home” button, instead of the “Home” page set in Options -> reading.

    To reproduce:

    * Set theme to Freshy
    * Create a “Home” page and a “Posts” page, as documented in http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/having-a-static-page-at-the-front-of-the-blog/
    * Go to Options -> reading and set to “A static page” with:
    -> Home set to “Home”
    -> Posts set to “Posts”
    * Save
    * Try clicking on Home and it will go to the “Home” page, but not highlight Home
    * Click on Posts and it will highlight Home and Posts

    This is a separate issue from pages showing twice, as mentioned in the above FAQ… The problem here is Freshy is not highlighting the correct button.

    I don’t think this is a bug; I think that is the way the blog is supposed to work. The blog post part of the blog will be the Home page, although it will not necessarily be the Start page.

    The static page you set as the front page will never override the blog post page as Home.

    Hmm.. that makes sense.. but then what will I call the “Home” page? =)

    Actually.. it doesn’t work quite like that.. the problem the link Home points to is still the “Home” set in Options… but when it detects if it is the Home page (for the highlight), it uses the Posts page.

    Here’s what I want to do:

    Have a “Home” page with a quick intro, links to some of my other pages, etc… next to it in the top bar a “Blog” page that will have recent blog posts.

    Is this possible with Freshy?

    You can’t change the names of the tabs without the CSS upgrade. With it, it’s easy if you know CSS. Why not pick another word for Home, though? Welcome is one word that comes to mind.

    But, if I had a Welcome page, it wouldn’t be able to exist in root dir, which is the only thing i think the “static page” option does… because the Home always links to the root page, but the highlighting for “Home” is the Posts page, different from the url it links to. Inconsistency in the theme.
