Bug harmonic theme: overlapping sub-menus
-
Hi all,
I’ve come across another issue with the Harmonic theme.
The issue is visible on this site: https://almansurblog.wordpress.com
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on the arrow to open a sub-menu
2. Click on the arrow of another sub-menuYou will see that the first sub-menu will remain open instead of closing. This creates an overlap between the menus.
Do you have a solution to this bug?
Thankfully,
~Robert

Hi Robert! I see what you mean.
Since the sub-menus are the kind that are clicked to expand, rather than expanding upon hover, they stay expanded on purpose unless they’re clicked again to close, as indicated by the up/down arrows.
There isn’t currently a way to switch the menu style as it’s built into the theme (in this case, requiring clicks). If it’s a problem on your site, you may want to rearrange your menu to space the sub-menus out more. For what it’s worth though, I think with the arrow indicator (and general user menu use) that the possible overlap isn’t likely to cause problems with people being able to operate your menu as-is.
Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Hi Sarah,
I understand your reasoning. Thanks for that.
Yet I am wondering about the merits of having the menus remain open until the user manually closes them by hand.
Wouldn’t it be more elegant (as a feature enhancement) to have the menu close automatically?
Or is it technically impossible?
Thankfully,
~Robert

You’re welcome! It’s a theme choice, so which way it works on a certain theme depends on how the theme has been designed.
For example, Goran uses the same menu style that stays expanded: https://gorandemo.wordpress.com/
While if you hover over “Page Templates” on the Sela demo, you’ll see the menu expands then closes automatically when you move your pointer away: https://selademo.wordpress.com/

Dear Sarah,
I understand. Let’s close this conversation, I propose.
It’s been the intentional design decision by the theme developers to do it this way and I will respect it.
Thankfully,
~Robert
