bug in my stats?

    Hello,
The french forum sent me here,
Since a few months, I have an average of 400 views for 200 visitors per day. Sunday 4 of october, my stats put the crazy number of 23 412 views for 400 visitors. It’s hard to believe that a ratio who used to be around 2 goes in 1 day around 57 views per visitors.
This incredible fact last only 2 days (5000 views the 5 of october) after that my stats shows the normal average of 400 views and a ratio of 2.
Normal until the 17 of october when 172 visitors make 9700 views (ratio of 58 views per visitors!). But 9332 views concentrated on one article. A basic article no more exceptional from others. This article has be shared only 12 times on facebook.
All this appears to me incredible. Today my stats are back to normal : 400 views for 200 visitors in average
So, is this a bug or the mysterious law of internet?
Thank you for answering, and excuse for my english.
    :)

If the views were really high before but now back to normal in your stats, my best guess is that it could have had something to do with spam or a bot which were somehow removed when someone here caught the problem and made an adjustment. Looking into it for one post on one would be very time consuming and difficult, especially since you mentioned it’s back to normal now. So it’s not something I would want to look into more deeply unless it became a recurring problem for a large number of people. I apologize I don’t have a better answer for you than this! Stats are not perfect and sometimes may have anomalies. Our data team is always working behind the scenes to do their best to make sure the information is as correct as possible but there also a wide array of variables and anomalies can happen from time to time.

Actually it’s quite reccurent, every two weeks this weird thing happens. But never mind I understand that is a difficult problem. Just a shame that I can’t really trust my blog’s stats. No more place for ego, haha!
Never mind, thank you for answering
    Good evening

I appreciate the report. The details you provided will help if this keeps coming up because you have included specifics which are very good. At this point and since I haven’t yet seen a wide range of reports from different users about it, it’s hard for me to make a judgment.

Thank you as well. Stats are never perfectly precise but are still worth keeping an eye on. :)
