bug in reformatted insert link in visual mode

  The function to make highlighted text a link has started malfunctioning. It was very recently reformatted and worked perfectly fine on 29 Nov with a url inserted and the box ticked to open the link in a new tab or page. Today 1 Dec when I try the identical thing, I get a bug so that I can only insert a link in html mode or the utility will refresh the page instead of creating the link.
