Bug in Safari that effects WordPress-pages?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

There seems to be a bug in Safari on Macs, at least it effects my WordPress homepage (see link below). The bug results in a blank page and only appears when I want to return to a previous page using the back button up in the browser bar.

I never had this problem before.

I am alone with this problem or has anybody else had the same experience on their sites?

My homepage runs normally when I use Safari on mobile devices or trying a different browser than Safari, like Firefox, on my Mac.

If you got a Mac and run Safari you can try it out yourself by following this example sequence:

    Home

Click on ”Videos / Texts” in the menu:

    https://carldieker.com/portfolio/

Choose an article, for example ”The Beat Generation Revisited”:

    The Beat Generation Revisited

Then try to click back in the Safari browser bar (not on the site itself).

If you get a blank page like I can’t think of anything else than there has to be a bug in Safari somehow.

Hopefully this bug will disappear when Safari is updated. Otherwise my only option is to find another theme, one that works seamlessly between different browsers and devices.

    /Carl

PS: I have tried to clear the cache / web page data in the Safari settings without any result.

The only thing that works when getting the blank page is reloading the page. Not a solution though.

I am using Chrome but I still can reproduce the problem. I get pages that load infinitely even in other places of your website. I believe it’s a theme issue, but maybe you should wait for an opinion from the staff members, can’t really help with this one.

Thanks. Do you mean that it works with the other pages but not the page with the Beat-article?

By the way, are using PC or Mac?

  • Hi there,

I’m able to replicate this issue in Safari (not in Chrome). I don’t see any JavaScript or network errors in the browser developer tools, though, so it’s not clear what might be causing this.

I’ve reported the issue to our developers. I can’t give you a timeline on when this will be fixed, but we’ll update this thread as soon as we have more information.

    Thanks!

I have just tried it out in Chrome on Mac and it works flawlessly. So Chrome and Firefox on Mac works but not Safari. It worked in all three browsers less than a week ago. During that time period there has been no new software updates in Safari. So I don’t know what is happening here.

Yes, next time I will use the #modlook tag.

I found another site that uses the same theme as I do and it has the same problem:

    https://roamandchroma.com

This bug is such a silly problem. Strangely isolated to the Safari browser. I rather not change my theme. Hopefully a solution will turn up.

The theme in demo mode does not seem to be effected by the bug:

My Huntt theme is a premium theme that was canceled last fall. I am speculating that the bug is related to the cancelation. That it might disappear if I buy the theme directly from the third-party developer (Themes Kingdom) and then have upload it to WordPress. I would also have to upgrade to the business package.

I have found six more themes that are using the Huntt theme and are effected by the bug in Safari:

Hi there! Yes, this does look to be an issue with the Huntt theme.

The theme in demo mode does not seem to be effected by the bug:

That theme demo is on the theme developer’s website and has been likely updated to work with the most up-to-date version of WordPress. While you can continue to use a retired theme, please keep in mind that these are no longer maintained and you may encounter compatibility issues much like this one. Since this theme is made by another theme developer, we’re not able to update it when issues like these arise.

That it might disappear if I buy the theme directly from the third-party developer (Themes Kingdom) and then have upload it to WordPress. I would also have to upgrade to the business package.

Yes, that’s correct that you would need a Business subscription to do that. You may want to ask Themes Kingdom if they would be willing to give you a discount or a free copy of the theme since you purchased it here previously, then you can upload it to your site once you upgrade to Business.

Hope that clarifies things. Let us know if you have any questions.

That must be it, their version of the Huntt theme most be an updated version.

A couple of days ago I got what looked like an automatic email reply from Themes Kingdom’s support. Other than that I haven’t been able to reach them.

It makes sense though that it would be possible for me to get a free copy of the updated version.

    Thanks for your help!
