Bug report: iOS editor breaks link-to URLs for all images in a post
-
Please can someone in WordPress enter a bug report on the following:
If I have a post that includes images which are set to open the media page when the image is clicked on by a user, touching that page in the iOS editor (app) breaks all the image links.
For example, the initial image link-to URL is the attachment page:
After editing the posting date in the iOS app – and making no other changes – the link-to is *silently* changed to a Custom URL which returns 404-not-found when clicked:

As such, for anyone working with images, the only reliable way to edit posts is via the WordPress admin pages and not the dumbed-down editors presented by default.
The only way to fix this is to *manually* edit each photograph individually using the admin tools.
As an aside, I want to add that the new dumbed-down editors really really suck for anyone working with media files. Lots of things are regularly broken, such as image captions, or undo operations causing the document to suddenly scroll to a completely different location making editing near impossible.
As such the *only* usable editor for longer posts with a lot of media seems to be the admin tool, which is probably not what you intend…
As a further aside, the bug report links referred me to a chat system. I enter the above there, only to be told to post it to a public forum. Before I could respond the chat system broke with “We’re having some connection trouble on our end, please bear with us.” All I wanted to do was enter a simple bug report, yet this seems to be impossible with Automattic/Wordpress.com!

Hello there,
I’m one of the developers of the iOS mobile app and just wanted to confirm the steps you took on the app.
– You opened a previous created post on the app
– You edit it through post settings to change the date of the post, the publish date
– You then publish/save the post again
– And you found out that one of the image links was changed to another link?
– You didn’t change or press on any of the images on the post?Is this correct?
Cheers,
Sergio

Hi transienteye,
It would be great if you could share the following details:
- The app version number in Me > App Settings > About WordPress for iOS
- Your iOS version number
- Which iOS device you are using
Once I know more, I’ll see if I can replicate this behaviour.
Thanks!
