Bug Report: Twenty Eleven LaTeX vertical alignment

    I have been writing a blog using the TwentyEleven theme at jeremykun.com for two years, and the vertical alignment of the LaTeX positioning in paragraph text has been a thorn in my side since the very beginning. (see, e.g., http://jeremykun.com/2011/06/19/linear-algebra-a-primer/) My readers have even mentioned what an eye-sore it is.

    I just recently got to the root of the problem, and the fix involves removing the vertical margins from LaTeX images. In other words, the WordPress team just needs to add the following CSS rule to the TwentyEleven theme to override the default behavior of images in the rest of the theme:

    img.latex {margin-top:0px;}

    After experimenting with the CSS upgrade previews, this makes the LaTeX rendering finally pleasing to read. I don’t think it’s fair for the users to pay $30 per year just to fix this by getting the CSS upgrade, because it is indeed a bug.

    I would greatly appreciate it if the WordPress team could roll out this quick fix. Two years too late can’t come soon enough.

    Hi there!

    Thanks for writing in with your suggestion. I’ve brought this up to our theme developers and they will review if the fix will work across all of the LaTeX symbols, etc. I’ll let you know as soon as I have any additional information!

    Thanks again for getting in touch.

    Just another two cents: from what I’ve seen, the other themes for which LaTeX renders nicely don’t have the margin setting in the global img tag, while Twenty Eleven does. So to my novice CSS programmer’s eyes it looks like that was inherited and the result was just minute enough to be unnoticeable (unless you write LaTeX in every other sentence like me).

    So my guess is that the fix I described would bring this theme in line with the others as far as LaTeX goes.
