– if you search for a video on wordpress.com, then select it, then do a new search, the video will still be selected. Cmon guys. Perhaps a clear selection button?

That does sound like odd behaviour. Is this happening with the block editor?

It is possible to assign a thumbnail as per: https://jetpack.com/support/jetpack-videopress/changing-a-videos-thumbnail/

Also, what page builder are you using exactly with your site?
