Build in a brief publishing delay?

Was wondering if WP has considered building in a delay of several minutes (or even 30 seconds) before a published post goes “live.” Something like the Google delay on sending out an email. I’m not the only one who occasionally clicks “Publish” by accident, instead of “Preview” or something else. I can immediately take the post down, but email notifications will have already been sent to subscribers and the post will have already gone to Facebook and Twitter. As a result, anyone who comes looking for the post will see “That page can’t be found.” It confuses and may permanently lose that reader.

Commenting so I can follow this.

I accidentally hit “publish” all the time…

There is a set date and time button right beside the Publish button which you can use to set the delay.

    Hope this helps.

I assume that op knows this — I certainly do. I think the question is asking how to make it so that a delay is actually built-in. So that the moment you click to “create a post” it will be scheduled for the future.

Perhaps I didn’t understand the original question, but that’s certainly what I’m interested in knowing!

The date and time setting works well for scheduling future publications. But my problem is when I’m still actively working on a draft and inadvertantly click “publish” when I mean to click “preview” or perhaps “save draft.” I usually realize immediately what I’ve done, but it’s still too late to stop the notifications. A 30-second grace period, or even 10 seconds, with a colorful pop-up saying “Now publishing your post” would be very helpful.
