Build then Transfer?

  I already have a host server but I want to build a new website with WordPress. Can I build it and THEN connect it to my host server so that the site I have now is still active while I build the new one?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi there,

  To be sure I understand, you have an existing site with another hosting provider, and you want to keep that site online while you set up a replacement site (in private) here on WordPress.com. Do I have that right?

  If so, then yes you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain you can use to get set up in private. When you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, that is when you will want to “map” or transfer your domain to us.
