build website before publishing

    Dear, i will buy a theme, i will build it as i want; but i want to do all what i mentioned not on the live website, how i can do this? also note that the theme that i will buy comes with one license. please advise about the steps to follow.

    Hi there, you could set your site as private until you’re ready to publish it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

    Bare in mind only sites with the WordPress.com Business Plan are able to upload custom themes: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

    Other sites can select themes from the WordPress.com theme directory: https://wordpress.com/themes/

    thank you for the feedback, what u mentioned is clear, but i want to go more specific: the theme i want to buy is a wordpress theme; what i want is to buy this theme, then build it on a one url, then after finishing it copy all the settings (images, fonts, text …etc) to another url. taking into consideration that the theme i will buy has only one license.

    That’s fine, provided it’s a WordPress.com theme found at https://wordpress.com/themes, otherwise you’ll need the Business Plan.

    Theoretically, you could export and then import the content to your new blog, but it depends on the theme. This isn’t really recommended to do, because you’re right, WordPress.com themes are per site, not per account.

    Exporting: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
    Importing: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

    Overall, the content will move, but you’ll probably need to change some stuff depending on your theme (such as the sidebar). Staff might be able to transfer themes between sites, so I’ve tagged them to find out.

    Hi there,

    We can help you move a Premium Theme between sites, but that will not work for what you’re trying to do: If we move a Premium Theme it will immediately stop working on the site where you already have it active, and it will not copy over any configuration of the theme to the new site – it will just activate the theme on the second site where you’ll need to do all the steps again to get it set up the way you want it to.

    What you’re speaking of is to have a staging environment for developing the site and then merging it with a live site. We do not offer a feature like that on WordPress.com.
