Building a basic Blog

    Hi,

I started building a website on wordpress but it gave me the option of a .wordpress site and not .com as I had my own domain name but not hosting with bluehost.

So I purchased the wordpress yearly plan thinking that it will only provide me hosting and my domain will remain with bluehost (I thought the process would be seamless).

Now wordpress says that I should approach the service provider (Bluehost) for transfer of domain name. When I do that, it just shows that my domain name is locked.

Can somebody please tell me what do I do as it is impossible to contact wordpress support – seek a refund, plan legal action, or just wait it out (and how long)?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you bought your domain at Bluehost you could have installed the wordpress software there and hosted your site there.

If you prefer to build your site here at WordPress.com (a different company to Bluehost that also hosts sites) then you can indeed keep paying for your domain at Bluehost and with a paid plan here just map/connect your custom domain address onto your wordpress.com site.

If you already own a domain name with another provider, you can use that domain with your WordPress.com site. Once you complete the steps below, instead of your site address being something like yourgroovysite.wordpress.com, your site’s address will be something like yourgroovydomain.com. Follow the steps in this guide to keep your domain registered with your current provider and use it to show
