  Hello,
  I’m helping my sister with redesigning her site. She’s a lawyer. I have 3 questions
  1) are there any drawbacks in terms of google rankings, flexibility with the administration or whatnot of not transferring hosting but only do a domain mapping and then point to the new site with you?
  2) if I do choose to transfer, how do I insure there’s no gap in terms of emails etc during the transition
  3) Can i build a site before I transfer anything just to see what it looks like and your tools? how do i do that? your site doesn’t seem to allow it
  4) i would like a theme that is very simple, doesn’t scroll down, allows for a featured image that doesn’t take the whole screen. I also want a button to switch between 2 language versions of the site. any recommendation for a theme that works with those requirements? (here’s an example of a page I’d like to create in my new site: http://www.victoire-avocats.eu/presentation-cabinet-victoire-avocats/, so i’m looking for a similar format to this page)

  Hi frederiquenahmani, for some reason this is marked as resolved, but I thought I’d go ahead and answer your questions:

  1) Mapping vs transferring the domain has no bearing on SEO. What will matter is whether you keep existing content / URLs as similar as possible, so that when people click on a link to an article on the old site, they’ll find that article on the new site as often as possible.

  2) If you choose to transfer OR map, you’ll want to ensure your DNS entries are copied over first. We do our best to figure that out automatically and add them for you, but you can also double check prior to changing the domain’s name servers to point to us. That step is manual, whether you transfer or map, so you can check everything first.

  3) Yes you can stage a site here! The best way is to buy your plan so you’ll have all of our features, but do not add your custom domain until you’re nearly ready to go live.

  4) There are lots of simple theme options here. I’m not sure I understand the part about not scrolling though.. can you clarify that? The site you linked scrolls for me. Regarding translation options, we have an article with some suggestions here:
