Building a page that contains categories and their icons

  I would like to build a page that appears in the main menu bar of the header that contains the following:
  A separate page (rather than a list widget in the sidebar) that displays all the categories (as small image icons in a grid layout) each one linking to its attached category page, where all the appropriate posts can be found.
  The current theme is Twenty Eleven.
  Does anyone have a recommended plugin or template to help me achieve this?

  Hi Ideflex, users cannot install plugins here at WordPress.com, but you could create a page and then put the images into an HTML table and link the individual images to the categories.
