Building a site under a live domain name.

    I currently have a domain hosted on a different platform, and this site is currently live. However, I am wanting to build a new web page for this domain on WordPress. Am I able to build a WordPress web page for a site that is currently live somewhere else? As of right now, I plan to build this new web page under a different domain name. Then transfer that data to the domain that is currently live once I finish the new build. I am mainly concerned about purchasing premium plugins for this new site, and then having to re-purchase again once I move the build to the actual domain name. Any advice or information you can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi BLT, no problem. You’re welcome to stage your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

    I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

    Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.
