Building a Static Welcome Page

I am wondering if anyone can help me out. I’m building an Author site and would like the Home page to be a static welcome page. Because of the design I’ve chosen, I would also like to keep that static page out of my nav bar menu.

Right now, I set the first page as a static page (using an “About” page I created). However, the “Home” Nav button and the “About” Nav button now lead basically to the same place–which means I’ve duplicated my architecture.

Is there a way to set up a new page called “Welcome” that will be my first page and NOT have the “Welcome” page appear as an option in my nav bar?

Here try this. Create a Welcome page as a child under About and then set Welcome as your static page.
