Building a website
-
i wanted to build a website using wordpress but all i can get is blogs, i dont want a blog i want a website how can i do a website with out a blog?
-
OK so I have to purchase the business package to get websites, is that what I am understanding?
-
Don’t need to buy anything to have a “web site” – a blog is a web site
Many people consider a “web site” as a static mostly Page based site.
A “blog” is Post based and more dynamic
Me? I just tell people I have a “web site” (I have a Post based site here, click on my name if you want to see it) – and let it go at that – depends a bit on what you want to do
-
Ok I have a website but it is limited on what I can do see recovery.lopezenterprizes.com I want a site similar to this one but with word press (hopefully) do you think its possible? I guess I want a static site?
-
recovery.lopezenterprizes.com – is not a challenge at all for any WordPress system
Once you get a site set up, you will want Domain mapping (change the display name of the blog here you built your site on) and No Ads (WordPress.COM sometimes displays ads to help pay for your “free” blog

Note – there are two types of “WordPress”

so do I just pick a theme and try to modify it for my needs, I can remove all blog related items and items I don’t want?
-
wordpress has Posts, which is the blog format, and Pages, which are meant as static pages that do not appear in a feed. Use those, build a menu showing them, and you have a “website”. Just don’t use Posts at all.
-
Please read the links in the list I gave you right at the top. It covers all kinds of different websites and how to build them.
-
No need to really “modify” a theme – you can’t change code here – find a theme you like – there are probably a dozen that look like your site – most of them can use a one coll. setup (no sidebar) – go over the links I gave also – flailing around in the Dashboard when you don’t know what you are looking for is not all that helpful and can be frustrating
-
There are lots of themes for what you need. And to give you an idea of how you can use WordPress for a blog website and a more traditional looking website…
