Building a website before transferring my domain

  Hi There,

  I am looking to create a website to replace my current website using word press. I was wondering can I create a website before transferring and connecting my current domain? if so, what are the steps to follow?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  You absolutely can stage a site here with us, by creating your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  We have tips for importing content from different platforms here:

  I also recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can connect or transfer the domain.

  Oh! You also mentioned transferring the domain. Here’s how you can do that:
  https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

  Transferring it will _not_ automatically point it to our service. It will stay pointed to your current hosting provider until you choose.
