Building a website with downloadable products and bundles
-
I am going to build a website for a client that needs to have a filterable list of downloadable products. I imagine the easiest way to do this is WooCommerce. Basically, they will be able to see the products but not download them until they are a member. Once they are a member they can download unlimited products. Each product has three filetypes (lets just say JPEG, PDF, PSD). They can select one filetype to download at a time.
The problem that I can’t figure out is that they want a just to be able to create a Project with a custom name and select products to put into that project and save them. Once they have built their project the user will be able to click download and select the filetype. This will download a zip file of all the files in their projects. I see this as a bundle software addon for WooCommerce or any other product we are adding but am not sure what to use.
Does anyone have any suggestions for these items? Is WooCommerce the best to use or should I skip the ecommerce software and go for something simpler since there is no shipping or taxes?

Hey there @inventivewebdesign,
a filterable list of downloadable products.
Do you have the filter part sorted out yet? That should be doable with a plugin

What about something like Composite Products? That would let shoppers “build” the product they need. I’m fairly sure it works with digital items, too:

I’d still recommend WooCommerce, for sure. You’ll also want to double-check on any applicable tax laws, just to be sure you’re charging what you need there.
I hope this helps!
Also, I don’t know if you have decided where to host that site yet. Our service includes SSL hosting, direct WordPress support, spam protection, backups, maintenance, security, and other services and features that don’t come with the free software. Basically, as a service, we’ll have your back in ways that the free software itself cannot. Extra code like plugins and outside themes can complicate the service we’re offering, so we require the Business Plan for plugin installation.
Or, you are welcome to use your own free copy of WordPress with another host, and use community resources or hired contractors if you don’t have time to take care of security, spam filtering, backups, support, and maintenance yourself.
