Building an online store. Where to start?

Since in all plans the online store must be hosted by Pressable, do I still get all the benefits of going through the Business plan? Would that cost $299 a year plus $25 a month? Mostly I need the ability to download plug-ins, so would I still need the Business plan or would another plan work since it’s being hosted on Pressable?

    Hello!

Do you have a site currently hosted at Pressable?

A WordPress.com Business plan is $299 / yr with no additional monthly charge. It includes site hosting, domain mapping, theme uploads, plugins including WooCommerce and more. Everything you need to start an online store.

There’s more information on the Business Plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

I do not have any site hosted on Pressable I’m looking to start a new one.

When I referred to $25/month I was referring to the mandatory Pressable + Woocommerce bundle that is presented once you click online store.

My question was: I need the ability to download other plug-ins. For an online store do I need to get the Business plan or would another one work?

    Hi!

If you purchase the Business Plan here at WordPress.com, you wouldn’t need to host a site at Pressable.

Only the Business Plan allows plugin installation, including WooCommerce.

There’s more info on the Business Plan here: https://wordpress.com/business/

In any plan when you select the ‘online store’ option you receive this mandatory message:

Get your store for as low as $25 / month

We’ve partnered with Pressable, a top-notch WordPress hosting provider, and WooCommerce, the go-to eCommerce solution for WordPress, to make setting up your store a snap.

Start by entering your email address:

    Get started on Pressable

So I need the ability to download other plug-ins. For an online store do I need to get the Business plan or would another one work?

Can someone more informed please answer this question?

Ah, @slightlylegalparkour – I think the discrepancy between the 299 and 24.92 is just that one is the monthly fee and the other is the yearly fee. So, you will pay $24.92/ month, which adds up to $299.04/ year.

The business plan is the only one that allows plug-ins. WooCommerce is really the best/ most common way to make a store on WordPress, and to download any plugins, you’ll have to have the business plan.

    Here’s what WordPress.com staff @kokkieh has to say…

    Hi there,

So my question is: what is the difference between using pressable on wordpress.com vs wordpress.org?

If you select that option you won’t be using WordPress.com. You be creating a hosting account with Pressable, and installing a site there using the WordPress.org software. You will be paying Pressable for hosting, and you’ll have the full WordPress.org functionality on your site. You’ll also contact Pressable for support, not us, as we won’t be hosting your site and won’t have any access to it.

So it seems. Even today when signing up for a new site here on WordPressdotcom, choosing the “online store” option sends you to set up a standalone WP site using WooCommerce on Pressable – a partner site, which is entirely separate and different from WordPressdotcom’s Business plan upgrade. I am trying to start a new business plan for an online store. I clicked on online store which took me to Step one, get started with Pressable. I am hosting with Pressable now but I can’t get Step 2 on your website. I requested help and the WordPress help told me Pressable is only for WordPress.org. This is completely inaccurate according to Step 1. Please let me know how I finish the WordPress Step 2 thru 4 to finish setup of my new business account.

  • Hi folks, we’re working on the flow for that so that you’ll be routed to WordPress.com if you click that option.

@laptoppartsexpert if you want to start over, you may. Just choose a regular site, then we’ll help you convert it to a store.
