Building & migrating a client site

  Hello,

  I want to migrate one of my client’s site to WordPress but before we transfer the domain over, well need to populate the site and decide on the theme we want to use, etc. I’m not a coder but very comfortable with WordPress and reasonably technical.

  I understand that to create a wordpress site you first need to put in the domain you want to build from.

  Is there a way we can build a test site first, and then point the domain to this site?

  Note that there are two versions of wordpress. You need to decide which version will be right for your plans:

  WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  
  If you decide you want to build your site here then you could create a free WordPress.com site initially and in due course upgrade to a paid plan to map/transfer a domain you already own.
