Building my own website

I already have a website that was built 10+ years ago and needs upgrading.
Is there a phone no. where I can speak to someone to find out:
    1. How do I bring my current url to the site.
    2. Would I be advised to go to .com or .org

    James.

There is no phone support, but the text based support here in the forums from both volunteers and staff is fast, efficient, and accurate, so I’m confident we’ll be able to help you.

    1) you can point your existing url to either a .com or .org site. Here’s how the process works on .com: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Important note: domain mapping only “points” your existing domain (or url) to the WordPress install, it doesn’t move the information from your existing site to the new one. WordPress does offer some import options, but I would have to know more about your existing setup to advise you on if those options would help you or not.

    2) going .com or .org really depends on the goal of the site, your personal level of tech-savvy, and your interest/willingness to take care of back-end maintenance of your site. This article explains the differences between the two “flavors” of WordPress: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hope that helps! If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know!
