building site without moving domain right away

  i have a web site already but want to change over to wordpress but dont want to close current site down yet. I already have my domain.. can i build the site without having to do the domain? or what options do i need to do?

  You mentioned WordPress and there are two types to choose from:

  • WordPress.com: where the site is created and hosted here with us.
  • WordPress.org: where WordPress.org software is installed on a third party host.

  WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  On WordPress.com, you could start by creating a free site, adding content and choosing a theme etc. The domain can be mapped or transferred here when you are ready to make the switch.

  Custom domains are a feature of paid plans — the domain credit can remain unused if you need to upgrade in order to access certain features like additional storage space but aren’t ready to add the domain.
