Building up a Blogging-Network
-
Hi there,
I wonder if it’s possible to set up and manage a blogging-network – just like http://www.joystiq.com for example – with WordPress.
Waht I mean is, is it possible to install one “master” instance of WordPress an generate multiple “slaves”, each of them with seperate design but using the posts of the “master”…
Would love to do that with some of my friends and just wonder how to do this…
Thanks in advance

No, it is not. You’d need an independent install of WordPress to do that the way you’ve laid out here.

Hello raincoaster,
thanks for your answer. I’m trying around but I don’t get it even with independent installs… is it possible to get the posts etc. into multiple installs of wordpress?

What you can do with software from WordPress.org is almost unlimited, but it depends on your own ability, or that of your techie. If you want to know how it’s done, you should ask at WordPress.org as we here at WP.com cannot do this.

The other thing is that having the same information in multiple blogs or places will get you ignored very quickly by all the search engines (regardless of whether they look different. That is a typical splogger trick – trying to game the system – and the search engines look very unfavorably on those that do that.

There must be some “SEO Experts” or “Web Gurus” who are running around teaching people this is a great idea. They particularly seem to target realtors, who don’t seem to know better. I just want to find them and melt their keyboards, this is such a terrible idea but obviously there are people out there spreading the word it’s a GREAT idea.

Yes, they think they are gaming the search engines when it has the exact opposite effect: slaughtering search engine ranking.
