Bulk spam sent on mass updating posts

  Bulk spam sent on mass updating posts.

  Trying to re-organize the blog, I changed a load of posts to private, deleted some categories, and changed the access back to published.

  I seem to have generated 125 emails to all of my followers.
  What did I do wrong?

  I bet by setting them to private, and then changing them back to published, you essentially ended up publishing them again as opposed to updating an existing articles. Anyone who’s subscribed to you with e-mail notifications got one for each post since it seemed to the system as if you just published a bunch of new posts.

  I bulk changed a lot of categories right across the blog to save time
  So what should I have done?

  Changing the categories without putting them into private would keep the e-mails from triggering since you’re just updating the posts instead of publishing them.
