Bumping up and old post

How can I bump up an old post to top of the page without losing any comments?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Open it for edit and make it a sticky post. It will sit at the top of your main blog page until you “unstick” it.

tried it tsp, and the post got headed up ok but it was unreadable with a red background and grey coloured font – unsticked it and all was fine – did it again and same result –

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

Sticky posts are visually differentiateed (for instance, different title color or background color to title). Unfortunately, in Vigilance a sticky post adopts for its background the color you’ve set for borders (and I don’t suppose you’d like to change your dark red border to white).
Solution one, make that post a sticky, switch the editor to html and enclose the content in this code:
<div style="background-color:#fff;margin:-10px -10px -6em;"> COMPLETE_CONTENT_HERE </div>This will override the red bg.
Solution two, don’t turn the post into a sticky, just change its date-stamp in the Publish module.

re: solution two
If you change the date-stamp on the post, then you are also changing the link.If that post is one that allows lots of readers find your blog, and you change the link, then Google or other search engines will return a 404 not found error message and your readers won’t find your updated post.

FYI there used to be an error whereby if you had a sticky post at the top of your blog, your new posts didn’t go out on the RSS feed. Not sure if that’s still a factor, though.

I still don’t know if the old post you want to “bump up” is one that allows many potential regular readers to find you,
but if it is,
and / or you want it to be prominent on your blog (for some other reason),then there is another possibility:
In your theme, you could add a header navigational tab which would link to your old post.
That would leave the old post secure with links from search engines, but at the same time it would be easy for new readers to see / find /read it.
Here is how to make it work:
