Business Plan

    Hello,

I am a teacher and webmaster in a school district that hosts our website. Currently, our site, ites.muscogee.k12.ga.us/rainey-mccullers/ is hosted on the MCSD server and the district offers minimal support. We would like for our site to have a .org web address and to include features such as paying for tickets, and embedding Twitter, music, etc. Our district does not support websites beyond the basics, so none of those features are possible. If we chose a business plan, would we be able to get the address Rainey-McCullers-SOTA.org and migration support as part of the business plan?

Thank you in advance for your response,

    Dr. Marlene Culpepper

There is no migration needed if the site is already hosted by WordPress.com. You pay the subscription fees and register for the domain.

If you referring support for migrating data from your current site into WordPress.com, a moderator will have to provide you an answer. I have added modhelp tag to page them

  • Hi there,

As long as no one else already owns the .org domain you want, you’ll be able to register it here. The other features you mention are also all possible with the WordPress.com Business Plan.

As for migration, you won’t be able to migrate your entire site as is to WordPress.com. If your site uses a CMS (content management system) like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal (among others), you can export your content in a .xml file, which you can then import here on WordPress.com. But you’ll need to configure a theme, user accounts, etc, here from scratch.

If your site is a static HTML website, the only way to move it to a CMS is to manually copy-paste the content onto new posts and pages on the new site. This holds true for any hosting service, not just WordPress.com.

Either way, we cannot do this transfer for you, as we have no access to your existing site, but we are happy to help you with any import- or content creation-related issues you might have on our end.

We have a detailed guide how to migrate content from various platforms to WordPress.com here:
