Business Plan – I am interested in this plan and have some questions.

Could I build the website first before going into my present host to point my domain name to the WordPress site (I would like to keep my present website up as long as possible)?
If yes to the first question, is there a way I can check to see how my website is progressing?
Can I use images to point to book distributors like I have on this page http://www.learndreaminterpretation.com/book/ or is it text only?
Can I use the PayPal button on different pages for different services?
According to what I read we can use Mail Chimp, could I make a page private that is only available to people who signed up on my mailing list?
    Thank you for your time!

  • Hi there,

Could I build the website first before going into my present host to point my domain name to the WordPress site

is there a way I can check to see how my website is progressing?

Yes, you can. All WordPress.com sites come with a free URL, like http://pamelaspsychicinsights.wordpress.com/ . That URL works exactly like a regular domain, so your site can be fully online or set to private while you work on it, and you can view it at that address. Then you can only add the domain mapping portion of your plan once you’re ready to make the switch.

Can I use images to point to book distributors like I have on this page http://www.learndreaminterpretation.com/book/ or is it text only?

You can hyperlink images, yes. First you add the image using the Add Media button, then you select the image and add the Add Link button and paste in the URL.

Some widget embed codes, like from Amazon, also work. Just make sure you use the plaintext embed and not iframe embeds. For example the Amazon one will look like this:

    <a href="affiliate link URL"><img src="image link"></a>

Can I use the PayPal button on different pages for different services?

You can, but we only support the simple PayPal buttons. So you can link a price to the button, but the buttons using forms or drop-down menus don’t work here.

    PayPal

According to what I read we can use Mail Chimp, could I make a page private that is only available to people who signed up on my mailing list?

You can add a MailChimp subscription pop-up, yes:

    MailChimp

But we don’t have an option for “members only” areas on WordPress.com sites. What you can do is to make a password protected page, and then only provide the password to people who sign up for your mailing list. But if any of them were to share the password with someone else, other people will also be able to access it that way.
