Hi there, sorry to disappoint but there are no free trials of upgrade plans here on WordPressdotcom. All upgrade plans come with a 30-day refund window from date of purchase, the only exception being registration of a custom domain, which must be cancelled within 48-hours to qualify for a refund. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
However, you can start and use a free site for free forever. Upgrades simply add more features. You can learn about those here: https://wordpress.com/plans/pdfdocumentsnew.wordpress.com

Hello Dej,
I am sorry but currently there is no option to try a plan before buying on WordPress.com.But here’s what you can do:
1. Buy the Business Plan.
2. Use it for 30 days.
3. If you do not like it, you can cancel the plan and get a full refund against the cancellation.WordPress.COM has a 30-day refund policy on all their paid plans, except for Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours. The refund period for Guided Transfers ends 30 days after purchase or as soon as your site has been moved, whichever comes first.
You can still cancel your plans after 30-days but you wont we refunded for your cancellation so it is suggested that you stay on the plan and let it expire.
NOTE:
You will be refunded to the same payment method you used for your purchase. After processing, refunds usually take about a week to appear on your statement. For credit card refunds, it may take 5-7 business days to appear on your online bank account or in 1-2 billing statements.
As stated here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/
You can cancel your plans from the manage purchases section. Read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/
Hope these help! 🙂
