  I want to create a site that operates like Amazon.com, only targeting a specific customer base. Customers would be a able to post items for sale, the transaction would go through me, and the customer would do the shipping. No need to carry an inventory

  Each customer would create an account on my site, pay a fee for posting the item for sale. He she would be notified when the item is sold and would receive their money via credit card, Paypal, etc.

  Hi there,

  Sites like that are not possible on WordPress.com. For that kind of site you’ll need ecommerce plugins and probably a bunch of other plugins to let sellers sign up for accounts, security, etc.

  You’ll need to look into the self-hosted option of WordPress, called WordPress.org instead. We have some information on how to get started with a self-hosted site here:
