Buttons – adding cursor over sub items
-
so in case the title is confusing, what I am looking to do is setup buttons (which I have created) and then have a way to cursor over them and have them offer up sub items – for instance, if I name a button breakfast, and then cursor over it, have it list options like eggs, toast, cereal and so on.
very new to WordPress, and trying to get a feel for what I can and cannot do with buttons. i tried the help features and web searches, but it keeps directing me to navigation dropdowns and blocks, but not buttons – near as I can find.
ty for any assistance

Hi! Buttons (as in: the buttons block: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/buttons-block/) don’t offer a drop-down function, or an ‘accordion’ function as such, which is likely where you’re getting stuck. It sounds like what you’re specifically looking for would be referred to as an ‘accordion’, for reference!
What you could possibly do is consider setting up a separate Navigation Block and drop-down menus within that to produce a similar effect. Alternatively, while the appearance is a little different, there is a “details” block that might be useful for you. We don’t have a guide for it just yet as it’s pretty new, but here’s how it looks in the editor:

In my screenshot I’ve used the List View on the left to show the block ‘structure’, while in the settings on the right I’ve added a little padding around the entire “details” block so the border (optional) isn’t too tightly around the text.
On the published page the result is that you can click on the arrow and Breakfast title to show and hide the list below. I used the list as an example but you are of course welcome to structure your links as you prefer!
It looks like that could even work quite nicely for replicating a similar button effect that you were after, if you place two or three of these in a Row block together:

I hope that helps, if you do have any other questions let us know!
