Buttons for website spam
-
Hi! I looked at my blog stats today and saw that I had 4000 views. I was excited because that is a whole lot for me. Unfortunately then I noticed that 3900 of them came from some “buttons for website” site. When I look at my site map it shows that these all came from Angola. So my actual viewers is only 266.
Is this a malicious thing? Is there any harm that can come to my blog because of it? I don’t understand what their purpose is for doing this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there!
I looked at my blog stats today and saw that I had 4000 views. I was excited because that is a whole lot for me. Unfortunately then I noticed that 3900 of them came from some “buttons for website” site.
It seems as if they are praying on you, as your site is becoming more visible. They cannot do any harm to your site, or your account. However, they can annoy the heck out of you, so I suggest marking them as spam referrers. Here’s how:
- Visit your Site Stats:
https://wordpress.com/stats/10440232?from=wp-admin - Scroll down until you see “Referrers.”
- Click the . . . symbol next to the listing for “buttons for website.”
- When the “Spam” link appears, click on it.
That should do the trick! That referrer will no longer muddy up your stats. If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)
