"Buy Now" or "Donate" PayPal button?
-
I’m using my “blog” as a website for a small editing business. I want people to be able to pay me via PayPal. Payment amounts will vary a lot. So do I need a “Buy Now” or a “Donate” PayPal button? I found a tutorial on adding a Donate button, but not on adding a Buy Now button, and I’m not sure which I need. Also, is there a really, really simple tutorial? I’m very technologically challenged. :) Thanks!

This guide explains how to add a Donate button to your WordPress.com site:

Thanks Evarlese, but I think what I need to know first of all is whether I need a Donate button or a Buy Now button. I guess it seems strange to me to have someone hit a “Donate” button to pay for my editing services. I mean, they’re not making a donation, they’re paying me. Or is that how it’s done now?

We only provide official support for the Donate button. You can switch out the Donate and Buy Now image if you choose to by uploading the Buy Now image.
If people will be buying services through your site, then you may want a Buy Now button. Keep in mind that some of the coding required by the Buy Now set up on PayPal isn’t allowed on WordPress.com.
One other alternative you may be interested in is creating a Wufoo form to use:

Thanks evarlese. It is pretty common for business people to use WordPress and/or to use the Donate button? I don’t want to appear unprofessional, but I know I can’t manage anything more complex than WordPress. (I’m afraid the Wufoo form is way over my head, so it looks like I’m stuck with the Donate button or I’ll have to hire someone who knows more about building sites).

I think the donate button would be just fine in this case, but that’s really more of a personal decision.
