Buying a domain – best choice for me from WP?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everyone,

I want to buy my own domain and forward it to my blog, but change my current blog into a website for my business I am building.

I want it pretty simple, and know my way around wordpress fine without worrying about messing with the CSS.

Given that, is buying the 15$ upgrade a good choice for someone like me? Please excuse my ignorant question, I’m just not sure what to do. I basically just want to use a website with a more professional URL.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Keep in mind that when buying a domain, your personal information that you submit is made public. I don’t think WordPress.com offers the privacy feature. Others like GoDaddy do but for a bit more money. Unless you can get away with using an alias credit card and another address. One woman I know just recently had her name, address, and a picture of the front of her home from Google posted on a forum by her haters because she didn’t know about this.

    pornstarbabylon,
Thanks for the message. Do you mean even my credit card number and address would be public? In general, the site would reveal info because its for a business, but obviously, I would not want my credit card number to be available.

    Thanks!

No not a credit card number. But it showed her name, address, phone number, and email address.

Lots of people are now getting P.O. boxes so instead of using their address. But their name and phone number is still visible.

I think you will need to buy the paid upgrade for domain mapping.

    FAQ

I’ve never done it before. So I don’t know how it works. I don’t think any personal information is revealed when buying paid upgrades here at WordPress.com unless it’s when buying a domain.

    Hmm.

Do most people just use something like godaddy.com?

It’s the most well known for domains though many people say they’ve had problems with them. But they do offer the privacy feature. Everyone’s personal information is made public because of an insane law of some kind. Though how many crimes can be committed by someone who starts stalking someone by looking at where all this information is at??

I think you still need to purchase the WordPress domain mapping. Hopefully someone else can answer that part for you or you can write in to Support.

Yes, you do, I read that part. Thanks for all your help!
