Buying a domain – ensuring redirection
-
I think I might have found the answer, but want to be clear before I press ‘buy’. I have a blog now on WP (http://gerrypatt.wordpress.com) and might want to buy a domain for it, changing the url to something like ‘vicious-cycle’ – to reflect the name of my blog better. My main concerns are 1) anyone trying to access the old url will get redirected, and 2) the many incoming links I have to the blog will work. Is it all taken care of?

Hi there,
1) anyone trying to access the old url will get redirected
Yes, your http://gerrypatt.wordpress.com URL will still work just fine, even if you add a custom domain. You can also choose which one you want to be the primary domain under Store > Domains.
2) the many incoming links I have to the blog will work.
Yes, all your older incoming links will still work.
Just let us know if you have any other questions.
