Buying Domain for Taken (Unused) Website
-
I’m a trauma therapist & would love to use the domain hopeforhealing.com The website is taken by a Word Press account, however, it looks like it’s never been used & there’s no content on there. Am I able to purchase this site? I can’t find any contact info for customer service anywhere on the WordPress website. Thank you! :)

Hi there,
The domain, hopeforhealing.com, is not registered or hosted with us. That domain is currently registered with GoDaddy.com, and the site on that domain is hosted on Siteground.com’s servers. That site was built using the free, open source WordPress software made by the community on WordPress.org – anyone can download that software and install it on their own servers to create a website.
To answer your question, when someone registers a domain, they buy the exclusive right from the registry that manages the domain extension, e.g. .com, to use the domain for a period of one year, with the option to renew annually. There is no requirement to do anything with the domain – if you want it’s completely legal to buy a domain and just let it sit, unused, for as long as you’re willing to keep paying to renew it. As long as the current owner of the domain continues renewing it each year, no registry and no domain provider (called a registrar), will sell or transfer ownership of the domain to anyone else under any circumstances.
The only person who can potentially sell that domain to you is the current owner, so you’ll need to contact them directly to ask if they’re willing to sell it. You can find a link to contact the domain owner on the Whois lookup page for this domain at GoDaddy, where it’s registered:
