Buying/Applying/Owning a domain

    Hello, everyone
I have just recently purchased a domain from this wordpress.com provider. But I’m not sure how to use it. It tells me to send an email to the provider to switch up my DNS.
    1. So, which email do I email specifically? And right now, I don’t have a wordpress site made. Do I have to create a dummy-blog in order to apply my new domain?
    2. Now that I purchased my own domain (the ones without the wordpress in it), does that mean I own the domain independent of wordpress? And would I ensure that the ownership of the website/domain that I purchased?

  • Hello @evergreenslive,

In order to sort your DNS you need a WordPress.com website where the DNS will be pointing at.

    1. You can start here to create a website on WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/start/
Then you can work on your DNS as explained in this step-by-step guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
    2. You own the complete ownership over the domain you purchased. By registering a domain, you have purchased the right to use that address for your site for one year. If you decide not to connect your domain with your WordPress.com website, you can transfer the domain to another registrar as per following instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

I hope all the above is clear and answers your questions. If anything is not clear of you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Cheers!
