Calendar Events

Why, oh why can we not get a built-in calendar widget? Those of us paying for commercial wordpress so we can keep everything in one place should not have to use a third party calendar. It’s a bit ridiculous that there are widgets available in wordpress.org but not in the commercial version. Makes us wonder what we are actually paying for…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Use the Eventbrite theme or widget.
Whether you’re paying or not, what WordPress.com offers is excellent security. That’s why you can’t use plugins and so on. It’s a tradeoff. You have to decide what’s worth it to you.

@raincoaster – not helpful at all; the whole point to this is a single point of entry. If we have to use Eventbrite or Google Calendar or something else, that’s utterly defeated the concept of keeping it simple for the folks updating the information. Now they have to go to two places. Mindboggling that people can’t understand that.
Seems to me having investigated Eventbrite that they and WordPress are in bed together, hence why WordPress.com lacks its own calendar widget…
WordPress.com folks — read your forums; there are dozens and dozens and dozens of people asking for this widget; start listening to your customers!

You get what you pay for – nothing more and nothing less.
And, can’t buy what’s not for sale.
If you paid for domain mapping then that’s what you get.
Domains – Important Notes Before Upgrading
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgradingIf you want what WordPress.ORG provides then you can hire a web host and set up a a WordPress.org install. To move your content you need to create an XML export file of your content. It will not include the theme as they cannot be exported. See 3 below.
Note: Premium Themes that are licensed for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/ You contact the theme designer to ask for a version that will run on wordpress.org software.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/

True but he already paid $75.00 for Modern News and may be past the deadline to get a refund for it.
-
@timethief – Actually we didn’t pay $75 for Modern News; we paid the $300 for commercial wordpress.com.
The problem with the eventbrite theme/widget is that the calendar requires interfacing with Eventbrite which is a 3rd party system. It is not wholly contained within wordpress.com.
I just look at the widgets that are available, and can’t fathom why an event calendar (that doesn’t require a 3rd party interface, be it Eventbrite or Google calendar) isn’t a standard widget.
And there seems to be a lot of people wanting one.
