Calendar / Events List Widget
-
When I use iCalendar to list events on a widget, the list does not include links, there is no place for someone to click to read the entire calendar post, I cannot seem to set how long I want the event post to be, and the formatting is unsatisfactory. Please help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
…the list does not include links, there is no place for someone to click to read the entire calendar post…
The Upcoming Events Widget displays a list of events. The number of events displayed can be set at 1 to 10, or All. The Upcoming Events Widget support page says:
If you want more than just a list, feel free to embed a Google Calendar.
I cannot seem to set how long I want the event post to be…
I didn’t find anything regarding the length of an “event post”(?) in the support page. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

Thanks for responding. I did embed a Google calendar, which is what generated the events list. However, the events show a teaser and then “…”, but there is no way for the reader to click to read more. There are NO links in the event nor does the event itself act like a link to the calendar or the individual event.

Hi there,
I checked your site at https://prisonerhungerstrikesolidarity.wordpress.com/ and didn’t see any calendar or upcoming events there. Can you add that back to your site so I can look at the issue you mentioned?
That will help me understand the issue you’re running into so I can help with that. :)

Hi rachelmcr,
I will add the calendar back to the site and so appreciate you looking at it. I would like to do it when I know you have time to check it out. Because it looks so bad, I don’t want to keep it up on the site for very long!
Thanks. -
Hi there,
I will take a look after you let me know it’s up on your site again. :) If you’d rather not leave it up on your site, you can add it temporarily, make a screenshot of how it looks on your site, and then remove it.
You can upload a screenshot like that to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy. That way I can at least see exactly what you mean about how it looks on the site.

Thanks for sharing that screenshot! I see what you mean now about the formatting. The Upcoming Events widget isn’t designed to display long descriptions of events, so it will cut off the description if it’s too long. It’s really just meant as a plain list of events with short summaries.
Have you tried adding a Google Calendar directly to your sidebar, instead of using that upcoming events widget? That way people can click on the events in the calendar itself to read the full descriptions.
Another option you might want to consider is creating a blog post or page for each event, and then creating links to those posts or pages in your sidebar. That way you can have full control over what appears in the sidebar, and when visitors click through they’ll be able to read all about that event.

Thank You! I really like that last idea and am going to do it.
