  I’m researching this issue. I checked http://storytosong.wordpress.com/ and I see the following event in the upcoming events widget right now:

  The Space Open Mic
  November 1, 2013 at 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

  Is 4pm the correct time for that event?

  8-10pm EST is the correct time for this event!

  Thanks! I’ve been able to narrow down the problem and reproduce it, but it’s proving more difficult than I expected to get all the various ics timezone variations worked out for recurring events. I’ll reply back here as soon as I have more information.

  @mslovin, I saw your note at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/upcoming-events-widget-is-having-a-few-problems?replies=4#post-1503248 and I’m looking into it.

  When I look directly at the raw data in the iCal file listed in your widget settings, there’s a line that says “DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20131106T210000” for the Back Page Open Mic event on Nov 6. In the sidebar, it says 4pm. The raw data says 2100, so is 9pm the correct time?

  Also, what calendar program are you using?

  9pm is the correct time. Seems like all times are off by 4 hours on the early side. I use icalendar on my Macbook Pro for scheduling events.

  Yep, what is happening is that we scan the .ics file for events in UTC and then adjust them to the right timezone setting at the end. The recurring events weren’t getting adjusted to UTC before processing and so they were getting a timezone adjustment applied twice, and that’s why it’s offset the same amount of time as your current timezone compared to UTC.

  It looks like the update the developers made earlier today fixed the issue for Google Calendar events, but other types of programs don’t use exactly the same raw data formatting, so they’ll need to go back in and look at those as well.

  We’ve made a new update to fix the time zone display for recurring events in the upcoming events widget. Could you check to see if the issue is fixed on your blog?
